Throughout its (too long) tenure, the model dropped almost all notions of the increasingly irrelevant Designer Edition models. There were simply fewer coupe buyers as Americans ran to minivans and the earliest family-friendly SUVs. Said relocation required a revision to the exhaust routing. And that was all.

The Subaru designed and built boxer engine, which has horizontally opposed pistons instead of configured in a V or inline pattern, uses Toyota’s direct and sequential port injection system and runs on 92 octane. The negative was the exhaust note (when in hybrid mode), which was too loud and quickly became tiresome. Italian Design The Hornet R/T is sharp looking with its Alfa Romeo roots coming through nicely. The AWD torque vectoring acts as an electronic limited slip differential. The paddle shifters were unnecessarily large.

Without being exhaustive, let’s take a look at some examples. These European designs are perfectly good EVs, although their limited battery range and high price compared to the gasoline versions are major drawbacks. Some people (by design) probably never knew it was a GM brand. Next up will be the ID.Buzz electric minivan.
