Be careful listening to self-anointed experts that owning a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is not a wise choice or viable option when buying a new car. Those truly in the know have real world knowledge of why a PHEV is the perfect bridge between a gasoline-powered car and one propelled by only electricity.

Ford has tripled to more than 200 the number of dealers certified to sell its lineup of plug-in electrified vehicles, including the C-MAX Energi that is on sale now. Ford’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle on the market offers EPA-rated 108 mpg equivalent city, 92 mpge highway and 100 mpge combined;the all-electric range is up to 21 miles.

The Prius PHV will be sold by all Toyota, Toyopet, Toyota Corolla and Netz dealers in Japan; the sales target in Japan is 35,000 to 40,000 units per year. VinFast invited Canadian and American automotive journalists to California to drive the 2023 VF 8, an all-electric midsize two-row SUV. The company has ambitious plans to import the three-row VF 9 by the end of 2023 and the two-row VF 7 in the first part of 2024, both of which are electric SUVs built in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

The Sonata Plug-in Hybrid will be distributed in California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont, but customers in any of the other states can custom order the vehicle at their local Hyundai dealer. The transmission uses an electric oil pump, which helps improve efficiency.
