Posco and LanzaTech to collaborate on conversion of flue gas to ethanol and key value-added products

LanzaTech uses non-food renewable resources to produce ethanol and also 2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BD), a key building block used to make polymers, plastics and hydrocarbon fuels. It has investment from K1W1 (New Zealand), Khosla Ventures (US) and Qiming Ventures (China) as well as funding from the New Zealand and US governments.

Participants in GTI’s project included Cargill, Johnston Timber, Aquaflow, Blue Marble Energy, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Michigan Technological University. GTI says that renewable gasoline (RG) produced by the IH 2 process results in more than 90% lower greenhouse gas emissions than petroleum-based fuels.

Ports of Auckland buys world’s first electric tug; 70-tonne bollard pull

Ports of Auckland (New Zealand) has signed a contract with Dutch company Damen Shipyards to buy the world’s first full-size, fully electric port tug. The new tug, a Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 to be delivered in 2021, will have a 70-tonne bollard pull, the same as the port’s strongest diesel tug Hauraki , also built by Damen.
