At the Zwickau vehicle plant, Volkswagen commissioned the first fast-charging park in Saxony supplied with energy largely from a power storage container (PSC). The PSC is an electricity storage unit and consists of 96 cell modules with a net capacity of 570 kWh. Residential areas are one example of where this could be used.

The energy control stations at BMW Group Plants Dingolfing and Landshut are stepping up their activities in the balancing-power market in Germany. There’s been a lot of talk about electric vehicles (EVs) acting as backup power for homes during blackouts—so much so that Ford is now using the concept as a central component of its marketing campaign for the F-150 Lightning. An alternative would be using tens to hundreds of connected cars as a resource while their owners are elsewhere.
