Other successful initiatives—highlighted in Ford’s 13th annual Sustainability Report—include reductions in water use, waste-to-landfill and CO 2 emissions as well as improvements in vehicle fuel economy and safety. A total of 37 fabrics now meet the requirements and have been incorporated into Ford vehicles.

1 Given that US EPA fuel economy figures for the vehicles are not yet available, we are using the ECE fuel consumption figures from Europe as a means to provide a comparison across vehicles, and are providing the estimated EPA figure where available. The Ioniq Hybrid boasts the highest fuel economy in the US (up to 58 mpg) for a non-plug-in vehicle and the Ioniq Electric is the industry’s most efficient EV (136 mpge). We are the highest fuel economy of any hybrid, of any gasoline car without a plug sold in the US. Design objectives included: Fuel economy.

A fairly conventional look Through a chemical process, the fuel cell uses hydrogen and oxygen to create electricity to power the motor and charge the lithium-ion battery. The closest comparisons for hydrogen-only cars are the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo.

In August 2014, Hyundai’s ix35 fuel cell model was driven a record distance for a hydrogen-powered production car on a single tank, covering 435 miles across three Scandinavian countries. Most recently, Toyota announced that its fuel cell sedan would also be available in the UK, USA, Germany and Denmark during the summer of 2015.
