The Recovery Act authorized Treasury to make direct payments to companies that create and place in service renewable energy facilities beginning 1 January 2009. This direct payment program allows for an immediate stimulus in local economies. Fuel cells. Microturbines. Combined heat and power.

Veteran automakers, oil companies, and federal and state governments have been both the prime movers and obstacles to plug-in cars in the past and they remain so today. The taxpayer is financing the American automakers’ survival and their future. The open question is what forces will drive the process and therefore at what pace.

My new solar system only needs to be 2 kilowatts now instead of 4 – which is good because solar’s still too damn expensive and the process for putting AB 811 financing in place is taking too damn long, (and that’s another Greenius post that I’m still working on).
