BYD Ltd and Praco Didacol (BYD’s Colombian distribution partner) announced that BYD e6’s will be placed into Taxi service as of Q1 2013 in the Colombian capital Bogotá as a pilot. The District Government authorized this scalable all-electric taxi pilot in an effort to improve the air quality in Colombia’s dense cities.

The City of Bogota, Colombia, has launched a pilot project to spur the use of electric vehicles in Bogota’s center-city taxi fleet. The first taxis are expected to be operational in the city in the next few months. Privately-owned electric vehicles will enjoy these same incentives.)

Didi Chuxing (DiDi), the world’s leading mobile transportation platform, will launch Latin America’s first shared electric vehicle (EV) fleet through its app in Mexico, as the company further invests in sustainable transportation innovations in the region. 200 EVs are exclusive for DiDi drivers.

Along with the 64 pure electric buses in Medellín, Colombia will have a total of 443 BYD electric buses, putting it at the vanguard of Latin America’s rapid push towards public transport electrification. Globally, BYD buses, taxis and other electric vehicles are present in more than 300 cities, 50 countries and regions.

Electric vehicles could soon become commonplace in the Colombian city of Bogota, after a project was introduced to spearhead an electric taxi fleet. The project was put together by the Clinton Climate Initiative Cities programme, and its partner the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.
