An Israeli-Australian venture will use solar technology developed at Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the burning of brown coal. The venture has been recently launched in Israel by NewCO2Fuels Ltd., a subsidiary of the Australian company Greenearth Energy Ltd., NewCO2Fuels Ltd.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011. There is significant cause vs. effect debate on CO2.

Driving range will no longer be an obstacle, because customers will be able to plug their cars into charging units in any of the 500,000 charging spots in Israel. Shai Agassi predicts that Israel will have over 100,000 electric vehicles in use by 2010. In addition to Smart Grid City, another major EV/V2G initiative is unfolding.
