The sales statistics for plugin and electrified vehicles in Europe for September have arrived. A megatrend appears to be: an overall reduction in new car sales. Car sales appear to have peaked in 2017 at approximately 100 million vehicles per year. The numbers have been going down ever since.

Norway saw plugin electric vehicles take 76.3% January’s combined plugin result of 76.3% plugin hybrids (PHEVs). The new policies affect both plugins and non-plugins, although the latter are hit much harder. For example, petrol-only vehicles (with relatively high CO2 emissions) are now taxed much higher in Norway.

Sweden’s auto market saw plugin electric vehicle share continue to grow strongly in December, reaching a record 74.6%, up from 60.7% December’s combined plugin share of 74.6% plugin hybrids (PHEVs). Full year 2022 plugin share stood at 56.1%, up from 45.0% year on year. Full electrics alone took a record 51.3%
