According to provisional data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA), the average CO 2 emissions from new passenger cars registered in the European Union (EU) in 2018 increased for the second consecutive year, reaching 120.4 As in recent years, average emissions were lowest in Portugal (133.7 grams of CO 2 per kilometer.

Efforts to improve the fuel efficiency of new cars sold in the European Union (EU) stalled in 2017 compared to 2016, according to provisional data published today by the European Environment Agency (EEA). The countries with the highest proportions of diesel sales included Ireland (65 %) and Portugal (61 %), Italy (56 %).
