After the first two LNG car carriers entered service in 2020, Volkswagen Group Logistics has now ordered four more ships with dual-fuel engines that can be powered with LNG. Models of the new LNG ships for the Volkswagen Group’s ocean-going fleet. Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures.

at the BMW Group site in Dingolfing is operating an electrically heated ring hearth furnace. Compared with its conventional gas-powered equivalent, the latest electric furnace currently saves some 300 tonnes of CO 2 a year. It is another component in BMW Group Plant Dingolfing’s transformation to a sustainable BMW iFACTORY.

As part of a pilot project, Audi is procuring 20-inch wheels for the Audi e-tron GT electric car that are made from low-CO 2 emission aluminum supplied by Alcoa to RONAL GROUP, the wheel’s manufacturer. EcoLum is delivered globally from predominantly hydro-powered smelters in North America and Europe.

The BMW Group presented the first BMW iX5 Hydrogen vehicles in a pilot fleet that will go into service this year. The fleet of less than 100 vehicles will then be employed internationally for demonstration and trial purposes for various target groups. The BMW Group sources the individual fuel cells from the Toyota Motor Corporation.

Currently unavoidable CO 2 emissions are offset by investments in certified climate protection projects elsewhere. Volkswagen already fixed an agreement with this Korean company, that only certified green power would be used to manufacture the battery cells. Another example is the “Drive Sustainability” working group.

German Federal Research Minister Anja Karliczek recently unveiled an example of a “hyper hybrid” vehicle powered by synthetic methanol, which is based on “green hydrogen” technologies. But while the idea to produce a climate-friendly car is admirable, the vehicle Germany used for the project was quite questionable.
