As part of the 2012 Advanced Clean Car (ACC) rulemaking ( earlier post ), which included the ZEV regulations, ARB changed the definition of an IVM. The ZEV Regulation previously defined an IVM as any manufacturer with California sales between 4,501 and 60,000 new light- and medium-duty vehicles. Background.

Mitsubishi could be the first with cars for sale if the UK distributor has its way. Mitsubishi's i-MIEV, an electric city car (using Lithium) about which much has been written (see EVWorlds report from Tokyo ,) is meant to go into production in Japan for Japan in 2009. NiMH is the risk-free pathway.

So far GM, Toyota, Nissan, VW, Mitsubishi, have all announced plug in vehicles they will have for sale in 2010. That’s 18 months away.

I wish the thing was for sale as-is. Well they did give brief bursts of acceleration through the parking lot to show that it does have some Roadster goodness to it. But yes, there was no slalom to see how it handles the twisties. It is probably a real rocket compared to the Daimler version that will eventually show up.
