Swedish Energy Agency grants PowerCell $1.4M loan for the development of next-generation fuel cell APU system

Green Car Congress

PowerCell selected an Auto Thermal Reactor (ATR) technology to evaporate (not combust) the diesel and extract hydrogen-rich gas with gas purity well within the limits of what a low temperature PEM fuel cell can support in terms of CO. Downstream, sulfur is trapped and carbon monoxide is cleaned up while the hydrogen content is enriched.

It was established in 2017 and is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Volvo has been for a long time (although the Polestar 2 is built in China). I used my solar-panel-powered Level 2 (240V) home charger, but if you’re on the road and want to top off quickly, DC fast charging at 150 kilowatts takes about 40 minutes to get you to 80 percent.

ABB charges into the future with Formula E

Charged EVs

Now, the general consensus seems to be that having the [AC-to-DC] conversion happen off-board lightens the bus, and makes room for a bigger battery. As the batteries get denser, that bus will have more range, and maybe more flexibility, because the charging will happen with DC. We released a 24-kilowatt DC charger last year.
