At the Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai introduced its new 2020 Sonata Hybrid, featuring up to 686 miles of driving range and an EPA-estimated 52 mpg combined fuel economy rating on the Blue trim. This is the first time the Sonata Hybrid has been shown in North America. The Sonata Hybrid has a 0.24

Hyundai unveiled the redesigned 2018 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models at the Chicago Auto Show. Although the powertrains remain the same, the new Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid feature a comprehensive exterior and interior redesign, safety, suspension and new and improved infotainment and connectivity features.

I’ve driven many a Prius over the years, and the 2023 version is the first one I’d even think about owning for any reason other than fuel mileage. I never thought I’d see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. I get it – sound deadening equals fuel-economy killing weight. And there are worse offenders out there.

Toyota pulled the sheet off the Grand Highlander at the 2023 Chicago Auto Show , showing not only a stretched version of their popular SUV, but also some premium touches that make it “grand” in more ways than length. The Hybrid Max has an estimated 0-60 mph time in the low six-second range, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds.

Toyota invited me to join other Chicago-area automotive journalists at one of the company’s offices in Chicago’s far western suburbs last week to sample the Crown and the redesigned Prius. In case you’ve forgotten, the Crown comes standard with all-wheel drive and is only available as a hybrid – and there is no plug-in setup.

The Toyota Prius has pretty much always been focused solely on fuel economy. The design was driven by the desire to maximize MPGs. Driving dynamics took a back seat to fuel economy. If you bought a Prius (or leased one) you likely bought it for fuel economy – or maybe because it was affordable.

Ford is introducing the North American version of the 2010 Transit Connect light commercial vehicle at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show this week.
