Long-range all-electric trucks like the Tesla Semi will not come cheap. Battery costs are declining quickly, but even Tesla still lists its 300-mile Semi variant with an estimated starting price of $150,000. CA have an insane credit for Semis, it's about $120k, so the Semi would be "free" in CA.

Plugin hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) can be a pretty contentious topic in the EV scene. For some, the idea of only offering a few miles of electric range followed by combustion is already hopelessly obsolete. For others, they’re a cheap scheme to get tax credits or HOV lane access.

Toyota has been dipping its toe into the EV water, mostly focusing on hybrids rather than electric cars. Its first EV, the bZ4X, hasn’t been a huge success, perhaps due to focus on hybrids. In this case, the automaker files for the credit and offers lower lease payments to the customer.
