Ford’s 2017 Fusion Energi—incorporating enhancements announced earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show ( earlier post )—can travel 610 miles (982 km) on a full tank of gas and battery charge according to EPA estimates to be posted to fueleconomy.gov—the highest combined range of any plug-in hybrid sold in the US.

2013 Fusion Energi. The US Environmental Protection Agency has rated the new Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid ( earlier post ) at up to 108 MPGe city, 92 MPGe highway and 100 MPGe combined (2.2, Fusion Energi is the Ford brand’s fifth electrified vehicle to launch in the past year—and its second plug-in hybrid after the C-MAX Energi.

The upcoming new Ford C-MAX PHEV and HEV models ( earlier post ), like the company’s next-generation hybrids, will use the company’s powersplit architecture with a high-efficiency Atkinson-cycle engine in combination with a high-voltage electric traction motor generator and a lithium-ion battery system.

On the heels officially introducing the Focus Electric last week ( earlier post ), Ford revealed two next-generation hybrids—including its first production plug-in hybrid (PHEV)—at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This allows it to run in electric mode before using the gasoline engine.
