At the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Mitsubishi Motors North America President and CEO Shinichi Kurihara confirmed that the company is developing the i MiEV for sale in world markets, including the United States. Fleet sales of the electric vehicle begin this July in Japan. The battery pack of the i MIEV.

Late to the party on EV incentives and decent charging infrastructure, only in the past two years have EV sales really made a dent in the Australian market. Mitsubishi i-MiEV – from $12,000 2010 Mitsubishi i-MiEV. These tiny i-MiEVs were the first EVs on sale in Australia in 2010.

Thanks in large part to Mayor "Red Ken" Livingstone, who enacted London's much criticized congestion charge policy in 2003. To facilitate these EVs, Charging stations are being put in place by local councils, making even short range electric cars viable for commuters. Still I suspect there would be greater demand than initial supply.

By comparison, the Nissan LEAF carries a 99 MPGe (combined) EPA rating, while the smaller i-MiEV carries a 112 MPGe (combined) rating. (1 Ford will also be introducing the C-MAX Hybrid and the C-MAX Energi plug-in hybrid—also to be built at Michigan Assembly— for sale in the second half of next year. Earlier post.).

The i-MiEV is based on MitsubishiÂťs i line of micro-cars which are quite popular in Japan. The four door i-Miev is only 11ft 1inches, 4ft 10inches wide, and 5ft 3inches tall but feels much roomier inside. Inside the car looks like a standard i-car but the gauges have very different meanings.

Each has signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Chrysler to equip post offices in strategically selected regions of the United States with a charging infrastructure for the envisioned program. 10:59AM (4/22/2009) I know it is a REALLY superficial criteria, but I love the paint scheme on the blue one pictured. Looks sharp.

The three leading new options to re-supply our autos with energy are charging at home, battery swap stations and fast charge stations. The method that should seem most natural is charging at home. If cost is an important consideration, than charging your EV at home is a no-brainer as it cuts out any profit-hungry middlemen.
