UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced that a blend with its Green Jet Fuel powered the first commercial flight in Colombia operating with renewable jet fuel. A LAN Airbus A320 aircraft traveled with 174 passengers from Bogotá El Dorado International Airport to Santiago de Cali, Colombia.

Colombia jumped 40 spots, from 98 th to 58 th , while Croatia moved up from 57 th to 37 th and Russia improved from 60 th to 51 st. Sulfur is found naturally in crude oil. Montenegro leaped 48 slots, from 89 th place in 2010 to 41 st in this year’s ranking. The United States placed 46 th , down two slots.

Indonesia and Malaysia will more than double production of palm oil biodiesel, while Germany will remain the largest producer of biofuels in Europe, according to the analysis. First generation ethanol, palm oil biodiesel and rapeseed biodiesel from Europe continue to be the dominant biofuels produced.

The use of compressed or liquefied natural gas as a fuel for vehicles could help to displace oil and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but to a limited extent because of the high cost of converting vehicles to use these fuels.
