Instead of flying from my home in Southern California, I asked if my wife and I could drive to the event. Electric vehicles are most efficient when driven in town to take advantage of the regenerative braking, or on the open road at slower speeds. The all-electric efficiency averaged about 3.0 miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The Nissan LEAF all-electric car will make its North American debut in Los Angeles on 13 Nov. The Los Angeles showing will be the first time people in the United States will be able to see the five-passenger, five-door, gasoline-free car, which is embarking on a nationwide tour. Scheduled stops include: Southern California.

The vehicles and infrastructure being funded include the use of natural and renewable gas, propane, ethanol, biodiesel, electricity, and hybrid technologies. The program includes the installation of 10 alternative fuel refueling sites (two B20, one Electric Recharging, and seven CNG). Total DOE award: $15,000,000.
