Cadillac has tried electrifying cars before. First was the short-lived, 2014-2016, very cool looking ELR plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Based on the Chevrolet Volt platform and technology, the ELR coupe was ahead of its time for the traditional Cadillac buyer, which was too bad. Driving Cadillac into the future.

In particular, we often see production delays and reduced volumes from what the market was initially led to believe and what may often be well below actual consumer demand. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.
