The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Aston Martin DBX PHEV and EV – electrified versions of AM’s first SUV on the cards. No surprises there are promises of big performance for a PHEV due late in 2022 or early 2023.

It’s interesting to speculate regarding the relative market share of the EV in relation to the PHEV. – BMW AG’s Mini brand is testing a plug-in model in the United States. “We’re excited about being able to market a car that will never use a drop of gasoline.&#. I’m guessing close to 50/50.

Capable of 250kW charging in ideal conditions, Volvo says the battery can charge from 10 to 80 per cent capacity in under 30 minutes. They’re not going to be cheap. Such prices comfortably eclipse the $121,990 Volvo Australia currently asks for the XC90 Recharge Ultimate PHEV.
