All of the overall auto market’s 9% YoY volume growth came from growth in plugins, leaving combined plugless vehicles with a volume drop, albeit with some shift in weighting from diesel to petrol. The BMW i4 saw its highest volume yet (458 units), and climbed to 7th. What are your thoughts on Sweden’s EV transition? PushEVs.

Petrol-only vehicles saw their lowest share in modern history, taking just 1% of the market. Finally, the Nio ET5 made its Norway debut in March, registering a healthy 41 initial units (for info on this new model, see my Sweden report ). Overall, HEVs have been on a long term decline since mid 2020.

Whilst this year France saw YoY plugin share growth in January, both the UK and Sweden have seen January’s plugin results flat, and both Norway and Germany saw a decline. Petrols were flat YoY in January, but are also on a slide over the long term. Meanwhile, diesel-only vehicles continued their decline, reaching 4.0%

Petrol vehicles also saw a relative sales surge ahead of increased emissions taxes. PHEV’s relatively low share was not due to their fall in volume, rather that the volume of BEVs and petrol vehicles were much higher than usual. Petrol vehicle volumes were 4x to 5x recent seasonal norms. jump in volume, gaining 10th spot.

Looking at the remaining fuel sales in December, HEVs clocked 9% share, versus 5% a year ago, while petrol lost 26 % market share(!), But it's not only about the German maker, as there were other models shining, like the BMW X3 PHEV (317 units), or the Renault Captur PHEV (182), while the fresh Volvo XC40 EV had 177 deliveries last month.
