Volvo Cars is tripling electric car manufacturing capacity at its plant in Ghent, Belgium as it prepares to meet fast growing demand for its Recharge line-up of chargeable cars. Ghent is currently preparing to take a second fully electric Volvo model, based on the CMA modular vehicle architecture, into production later this year.

Following the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and now the C40 Recharge, Volvo Cars will roll out several additional electric models in coming years. By 2025, Volvo Cars aims for 50% of its global sales volume to consist of fully electric cars, with the rest hybrids.

Polestar, the electric performance car brand jointly owned by Volvo Car Group and Zhejiang Geely Holding, unveiled the Polestar 2 electric fastback in an online reveal from Polestar’s headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden. Polestar 2 will make its first public appearance at the Geneva International Motor Show next week.

Unveiled in 2019, the Polestar 2 put the brand on a new path toward becoming an all-electric automaker. The Polestar 2 is the brand’s first fully electric vehicle after the Polestar 1, a hybrid with up to 78 miles of electric range. It’s sold in 26 markets globally.

At IAA Commercial Vehicles, Dutch truck manufacturer DAF—a division of Paccar—is showcasing the LF Electric, CF Electric and CF Hybrid Innovation trucks. DAF LF Electric Innovation Truck. The DAF LF Electric is a 19 tonne fully electric truck for zero emissions city distribution.
