The city has provided incentives for the purchase of both EVs and charging ports, the installation of heat-pump water heaters , and the installation of solar and battery-storage systems. Converting a gas appliance to a heat pump, for example, would draw 4 to 6 kW, while an L2 charger for EVs would be 12 to 14 kW.

The project includes quick-charging stations at this terminal layover in route to recharge bus batteries. Grid sourced electrical energy used to recharge the bus batteries will be augmented with solar energy collected with panels procured and installed under this project. Andy Frank and Mark Duvall of EPRI , I spoke to the need to fund battery research and demonstration vehicles. Afterward several members of Congress went outside for test drives in a plug-in hybrid brought to Washington by Cal-Cars. On the state level, Minnesota became the first state in the Union to pass plug-in hybrid legislation.
