A new all-electric luxury SUV is set to hit the market next year to compete with Tesla’s best-selling Model Y. Volvo is joining the luxury electric SUV market with its new EX60 launching next year. The new EV will compete against premium SUVs like the Tesla Model Y , Porsche Macan EV, and Mercedes-Benz EQC.

As examples of SUV/MPV-style electric vehicle fuel efficiency, the 2016 Tesla Model X AWD - 75D is EPA-rated at 93 MPGe combined city/highway; the Model X AWD - P90D is EPA-rated at 89 MPGe; and the 2016 BYD e6 compact MPV is EPA-rated at 72 MPGe. Some of the new and updated models, such as a battery-powered version of Geelys Panda hatchback, may hit the market as early as October, and in some cases they might carry price tags low enough for farmers and other rural residents with limited financial means. BYD has said it is aware of these issues and is working resolve them.

GM has announced plans for public sales in 2010, and almost every carmaker now says it will sell PHEVs or highway-speed battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sometime after 2010. In late 2008, BYD started selling the first production PHEV in China. BYD also developed the motors and software for the system.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Toyota Prius modders have already been adding larger batteries so the vehicle can run on battery power. Way to go morons.
