Seaboard Energy has chosen Haldor Topsoe’s HydroFlex hydroprocessing fuel technology to produce renewable diesel from tallow and soybean oil. The 6,500 barrels-per-day renewable diesel unit is currently under construction at Seaboard Energy’s site in Hugoton, Kansas, and is scheduled for operation at the end of 2021.

By doing so, it will enable the wind farm to store electricity when the site is generating it, and then have that electricity available to be consumed whenever needed. Renewables are the fastest growing form of energy and account for around 4% of global energy demand today.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a report outlining both the current state of renewable transportation fuels efforts in the US and a plan to develop regional strategies to increase the production, marketing and distribution of biofuels. The US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is collaborating with Oorja Protonics , a developer and manufacturer of direct methanol fuel cell technology ( earlier post ) on a two-year project to deploy and demonstrate methanol fuel cells for power pallet jacks in four commercial wholesale distribution centers.

The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has established four additional Biomass Crop Assistance Program ( BCAP ) project areas to promote the cultivation of crops that can be processed into renewable energy. Qualified biomass conversion facilities produce heat, power, biobased products, or advanced biofuels from biomass feedstocks.
