Peterbilt Motors Company announced the availability of the new 2013 Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine. Peterbilt has been manufacturing trucks featuring liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems solutions for heavy-duty over-the-road, regional and vocational applications since 1996.

Agility Fuel Solutions (Agility), a leading global provider of clean fuel solutions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, introduced the new fifth-generation ProRail CNG fuel system. Gen5 ProRail installed on a Peterbilt 567. Agility Fuel Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hexagon Composites.

Eaton Corporation announced that customers of its hybrid systems have collectively accumulated more than 100 million miles of service, reducing fuel consumption by 4 million gallons of diesel fuel and harmful emissions by 40,000 metric tons.

At each stop, engines are kept idling for security purposes, but now risk violating California’s strict diesel idling regulations, which prohibit idling the engine for more than five minutes. Currently, Sectran Security trucks make frequent stops as part of their highly congested routes. The CNG storage tanks are roof-mounted.

Eaton Corporation has established a program to assist diesel truck fleet owners in applying for the $156 million in grants for diesel hybrid trucks that are available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). An existing diesel truck has to be taken out of service for each new hybrid truck that is purchased.

The Westport HD System offers class-leading performance for heavy-duty on-road Class 8 trucks and allows trucking fleets to move to lower-cost, domestically available and low-carbon natural gas and/or biogas. The Westport GX is available in power ratings of 400-475hp (298-354 kW) and torque ratings of 1450-1750 lb-ft (1966-2373 N·m).
