(PAG) has terminated its discussions with General Motors Company to acquire the Saturn brand, citing concerns directly related to the future supply of vehicles beyond the supply period it had negotiated with GM. Today’s disappointing news comes at a time when we’d hoped for a successful launch of the Saturn brand into a new chapter.

In the interim, if Saturn retailers or other investors present a plan that would allow a spin-off or sale of Saturn Distribution Corporation, GM would be open to any such possibility.

The Pontiac brand will be phased out by the end of 2010 and GM will offer a total of 34 nameplates in 2010, down 29 per cent from the 48 available in 2008. This revised plan also moves up the resolution of Saab, Saturn and Hummer to the end of 2009 at the latest. -
