Whereas the original Niro was available as a regular hybrid , a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a battery electric vehicle (EV), the new model does without the PHEV option. So instead it’s hybrid and EV tech for Kia’s new entry-level electrified SUV. But even as a hybrid the Niro doesn’t come particularly cheap. Kia Niro EV GT-Line.

It’s big, boxy and stuffed full of tech, and — in its flagship GT-Line grade — is faster than most petrol-powered hot hatches. The 350 is the more expensive variant, but because of rear axle load limitations is only available as a five seater. A 2-3-3 layout is also potentially available. Maybe in the future.

Available here only in ($340,000 drive-away) AMG 53 trim, the EQE’s you smaller yet more affordable way into an electric Benz sedan. It’s supercar fast, yes, but it won’t give you the satisfying tingles of a petrol-powered AMG great. In the metal it very much looks a compact alternative to its big brother EQS.

Range risk concerns obviously are tightly coupled to EV charging availability. Even those with homes, their garages may not be available for EV charging. EVs ain’t cheap Price is another EV purchase risk that is comparable to EV range. Buying a new car is the second most expensive purchase a consumer makes behind buying a house.

The whole infrastructure needs to be revamped, from electrical generation to transmission of to user sources and, finally, how to make plug-in sites available to city dwellers? So, the used batteries are almost arbitrarily cheap since an arbitrarily large fraction of their cost of production can be loaded on their use in transportation.
