EPA released the latest edition of its annual report on trends in CO 2 emissions, fuel economy and powertrain technology for new personal vehicles in the US. Fuel economy has now increased in eight of the last nine years; average carbon dioxide emissions are also at a record low of 369 g/mile in model year 2013.

Vehicles approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) can be found by going to the fuel-economy offshoot of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website. The first of those is broken down into electrified automobiles that have at least 40 percent of the battery's critical mineral values extracted and/or processed within the U.S.

“FCEV” refers to all fuel cell vehicles, including E-REVs and fuel cell hybrids. Charge-sustaining fuel economy for all vehicles is assumed to be 36 miles per US gallon. Kia had its Soul EV on the market and made its presence known, then added the Niro EV (and PHEV & Hybrid), but now is adding the EV6 crossover. There’s a new badge in town.
