GM unveils the US production version of the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan at the LA Auto Show on 2 December. The Cruze will compete with vehicles such as Toyota Corolla; Honda Civic; Ford Focus; Hyundai Elantra; and Nissan Sentra. turbo, Cruze’s fuel efficiency enables a cruising range of more than 500 miles (800 km).

Ford unveiled the North American 2011 Ford Fiesta at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Fiesta—available in four- and five-door bodystyles—will offer North American buyers a new choice of 15 class-exclusive technologies and projected highway fuel economy of 40 mpg, besting the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris and Corolla.

Fuel economy is rated at 28 mpg city/36 highway/31 combined for the FWD Taos, with the AWD model returning 25/32/28. The LED lighting and chromed exhaust ports give the whole package an upscale look that makes the price tag look like a bargain. And this doesn’t address the segment leaders, the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V.
