I get it – sound deadening equals fuel-economy killing weight. This Prius wasn’t a bargain at $38K, but that’s still under the average transaction price these days and within reach for plenty of folks. Out the door price? Fuel economy is listed at 52 mpg across the board for city/highway/combined.

Some materials felt a bit cheap, though. The entire package is well put together, balancing fun-to-drive, functionality, and fuel economy. All at a reasonable price. Total price? There are a lot of good choices at this size and price point. If it looks like I am struggling to pick nits, well, I am.

Not necessarily in a bad way – nothing felt cheap. Seventeen-inch wheels, LED lights all around, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and starting, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth. The as-tested price seemed a bargain at $26K. At least the promised fuel economy is on the high side – EPA numbers are 29/40/33.

As for how much the aerodynamics help with fuel economy, read on. What does a base price of $113,095 get you? Total as-tested price? Size is the enemy of fuel economy, and even with a reduced cylinder count the numbers are a not great 14 mpg city/19 mpg highway/16 mpg combined. That’s … a lot.
