The US auto industry, via the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, is lining up to support a new national, harmonized program to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption that President Obama will announce on Tuesday, 19 May. Autos represent 17% of all anthropogenic CO 2 in the US, according to EPA.

The US Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to grant California’s request to carry out its own clean car standards not only clears the way for the Schwarzenegger-led state to cut its own greenhouse gas emissions, but it is likely to effect at least 13 additional states too.

A key goal of the Obama administration is to have one million ‘PHEVs’ or a fully electric vehicle on the road by 2015. Investors, entrepreneurs, policy makers, car companies large and small, supplies, utilities, analysts and demand response aggregators will convene to map out and deploy the electric mobility industry of tomorrow.
