A new study sponsored by Indiana University concludes that President Obama’s vision of one million plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) on US roads by 2015 will require concentrated efforts action from all stakeholders— the auto industry, federal government, the scientific community, and consumers—to be realized.

Though the scheme proved so popular that the initial $1billion set aside for it ran out last month, auto sales only rose by 2.4 Of course any upward momentum is to be welcomed and Congress has now approved a further $2billion as an emergency top-up for the programme (see article ). So is this scheme green at all?

This is a well written story in the Pasadena Star News about how the utilities are gearing up for the coming plug-in vehicles. By 2012, we should have made some progress on this, just in time to re-elect Obama to his second term. “The auto industry is aligned, the public is aligned, even the president is aligned.
