SAIC Mobility Europe, a division of China’s largest vehicle manufacturer, SAIC, is introducing the Maxus light commercial vehicle brand. The Maxus EV80 van has become the first fully electric large panel van on European roads, ahead of the brand’s full launch in 2019.

In the truck sector, MAN Truck & Bus, a member of the Volkswagen Group, currently expects that electric trucks will have a share of 60% in distribution applications and 40% in long-haul transport in 2030. Electrification of city buses began earlier, with MAN expecting 50% of sales to be electric drives by 2025.

Hong-Kong-based Sinotruk has made an initial purchase of UQM PowerPhase DT (drivetrain) systems ( earlier post ) for implementation and evaluation in their commercial vehicles. This is the first step towards the long term strategy of utilizing UQM electric drive products across Sinotruk’s portfolio of commercial vehicles.

Maxus is presenting a range of zero emission EV80 battery electric vans at the 67 th IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover. Under the new agreement with SAIC Maxus, LeasePlan will offer operational leasing solutions for the fully-electric EV80 large panel van to business customers across continental Europe.
