Mercedes-Benz Vans unveiled two design variants of the Concept X-CLASS, previewing the coming X-Class pickup, in Stockholm. The introduction of the one-ton pickup with seating for up to 5 people will make Mercedes-Benz the first premium manufacturer to account for the changing customer requirements in the global segment of mid-size pickups.

Mercedes-Benz will introduce a new urban delivery van called Citan later this year. The name Citan combines the words “city” and “titan,” indicating that the vehicle is designed for city logistics, the company said during a symposium on brand competence and city logistics held at the Mercedes-Benz Design Center in Sindelfingen.

Together, Nissan and Daimler will develop a 1-ton pickup truck for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz recently announced its entry into this segment. The Mercedes-Benz pickup will share some of the architecture with the all-new Nissan NP300 but it will be engineered and designed by Daimler to meet the specific needs of its customers.

Nissan and Daimler broke ground on the US$1-billion Aguascalientes, Mexico, plant in 2015, which will produce next-generation premium compact vehicles for Infiniti as of 2017 and for Mercedes-Benz starting in 2018. In 2015, Daimler and Nissan announced the joint development of the first Mercedes-Benz pickup truck.
