A new study by a team from Aarhus University in Denmark has found that car dealerships pose a significant barrier to electric vehicle adoption at the point of sale due to a perceived lack of business case viability in relation to gasoline and diesel vehicles. Only three North America-focused studies exist as of 2017.

This is in part due to the collapse of the Italian and French markets, on which small cars are heavily reliant for sales—in 2019, 38% of A and B segment registrations in Europe occurred in Italy and France. As expected, all segments across Europe were impacted negatively by mandatory lockdowns.

The NPRM also proposes an optional method of meeting electrical isolation requirements in certain conditions that would allow fuel cell vehicles to be offered for sale in the US. GTR Nº 13, “Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles,” addresses hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology. The US voted on 27 June 2013 in favor of establishing GTR Nº 13.
