Yesterday we covered the unexpected electric car challenge from a Tesla fan to the BBC journalist driving the 400+ mile trip from London to Edinburgh in a prototype 2009 MINI E David Peilow, a regular at TeslaMotorsClub.Com, took some time off from his work to prove that not all electric cars were slow and impractical for long-distance driving.

But the recent BBC "Mini Adventure," a 484-mile journey from London to Edinburgh in a Mini E, has caught fire like nothing I've seen in a while. by Chelsea Sexton Slanted, anti-EV reporting is hardly a new thing, and I suspect we're in for a lot more of it in 2011 as plug-in vehicles hit showrooms.

The project, which will put 340 vehicles on the road in trials within the next six to eighteen months, will be the biggest of its kind and is intended to accelerate the availability of low carbon cars to consumers. The majority of the vehicles are electric, with a small number being plug-in gasoline-electric hybrids.

Some of the participants in the UK Government’s electric car trial have expressed their enthusiasm at earning funding to be part of the scheme. “Smart has been conducting real-life trials of 100 electric cars with partner companies across the country since 2007,&# he said.

A UK-wide trial of electric cars has been launched. Ministers gathered at London’s Guildhall this morning to unveil the range of electric and low carbon technology vehicles to be used in the trails. The trails will take place in London and four locations around the UK - Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, and Oxford.

MINI is on the hunt for willing test drivers to drive its electric MINI cars as part of a Government-backed scheme to get electric cars on the roads. Pioneering drivers are wanted to partake in MINI E UK research project. The MINI E driver also pays for the electricity used.
