Chrysler unveiled four all-electric Chrysler Town & Country minivan concepts to the US Postal Service (USPS) in Washington, DC, as part of the USPS Earth Day celebration. One of the electric mini-van prototypes. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) also has signed an LOI to provide USPS integration tools.

Reuters reports that Chrysler has disbanded its ENVI team, formed in 2007 to bring electric-drive vehicles and related advanced-propulsion technologies to market. Just thinking about the crew of people needed to tramp around to change all those batteries is exhausting, and to actually do it would be prohibitively expensive and impractical. A much better way to conserve battery power would be to use none of it at all until the system actually had important data to transmit.

The 100 battery-driven electric Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL vans ( earlier post ) in use in Berlin and Stuttgart have covered 650,000 km (404,000 miles). In Stuttgart, the Integrated Concept for Sustainable Electric Mobility project (IKONE) is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development.
