The department noted that they started looking into the idea of an all-electric patrol car last year after seeing dismal reviews of available hybrid patrol cars. Captain Kirt Yoder, the agency’s project manager, noted that Tesla Kansas had been quite helpful. Tesla-Kansas City was great.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Smith Electric Vehicles announced that Smith will open an electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Chicago. Chicago will be Smith’s third location in the United States, joining the headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., and a manufacturing facility in New York City.

The United Auto Workers have reached a tentative agreement with all three Detroit automakers. The UAW effectively turned up the pressure on all automakers in recent weeks, targeting their most lucrative facilities for expanding labor strikes. There will also be an immediate pay bump for all unionized employees.
