Ride-sharing company Lyft and driverless technology company Motional announced today the launch of the new all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5-based robotaxi, which will offer fully driverless rides on Lyft’s Las Vegas network. cities beginning in 2023.

Motional, formed in March 2020 as an autonomous driving joint venture between Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv, will work in partnership with ride-hailing services to deploy the Level 4 autonomous vehicles starting in 2023. The all-electric IONIQ 5 robotaxi was first unveiled at 2021 IAA Mobility.

Hyundai’s air mobility arm Supernal plans to put its new S-A2 aircraft into production in 2028 ahead of what it expects to be a huge increase in demand for electric aircraft as an alternative to taxis in cities. It can seat up to five people including the pilot and is electric powered. There is no such thing as car designers anymore.

At CES in Las Vegas, the company announced that hydrogen fuel will now play a “crucial role in Hyundai’s sustainability roadmap as it is a clean energy source.” Rather than plugging in the vehicle as you would for a battery-electric car, hydrogen fuel cells rely on compressed hydrogen.

Traxen, a metro Detroit-based technology, launched its intelligent adaptive cruise control system, iQ-Cruise, for traditional and electric commercial vehicles. The system will be available to both commercial vehicle aftermarket and OE customers. Traxen conducted its first side-by-side cross-country trial in August 2020.
