The news that General Motors would relaunch the infamous Hummer name—as an all-electric truck no less—broke a few days before the high-dollar, high-visibility 2020 Super Bowl ad that introduced that vehicle to the world. The name isn’t its own brand; the 2022 GMC Hummer EV will be sold as a model line within the GMC luxury truck brand.

General Motors is recalling 111,242 Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles for potential fire risks involving a seat belt pretensioner. “General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV vehicles,” the NHTSA’s summary of the recall said. ” GM opened an investigation in late October.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra says the Detroit automaker is “absolutely” capable of catching Tesla’s EV market share in the United States by 2025. With the GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and the most affordable versions of the Chevrolet Bolt set to be released, GM also plans to have at least 30 EVs in its lineup by 2025.

The startup carmaker Rivian was founded a decade ago by RJ Scaringe, but it didn’t go public with its electric pickup truck and SUV until the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. A 135 kWh battery pack under the cabin and bed powers four 150 kW (200 hp) electric motors, one per wheel. The two vehicles pretty much stole the show that year.
