The vans ordered by California Department of State Hospitals have zero tailpipe emissions and achieve 61 MPGe on EPA city and highway routes, compared to 13 MPG for a gasoline version of the same vehicle. In fiscal year 2018-2019, the department employed nearly 13,000 staff and served 11,752 patients in the 24/7 hospital system.

Lightning was one of the first to test under the newly released 2018 CARB efficiency and range validation test procedures for medium-duty vehicles, performed at the SGS Environmental Testing Center. Depending on battery option and drive cycle, LightningElectric has a payload capacity of up to 4,000 pounds.

The Gen 4 model achieves 61 MPGe on certified dyno testing, compared to 13 MPG for the gasoline version. New for 2021, Lightning eMotors will offer a new digital dashboard that highlights range, efficiency and state of charge, a new phone application interface, and support for new Ford safety features.

Last month, Lightning announced that in testing, the Ford Transit 350HD equipped with the zero-emissions LightningElectric drivetrain achieved 61 MPGe on EPA City routes and 66 MPGe on EPA Highway routes. This compares to 13 and 15 MPG respectively for the identically configured gasoline Ford Transit 350HD.

Under the agreement the companies will expand Sapphire Energy’s current testing programs to further validate that Green Crude can be refined in traditional refineries and meet all of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) certification requirements under the Clean Air Act. In 2013, Sapphire signed its first commercial customer, Tesoro.
