South Korea-based SK On (SKO), a global EV battery manufacturer, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Australia’s Global Lithium Resources to explore future business opportunities together in regard to stable supply of lithium. Incorporated in 2018, Global Lithium was listed on the Australian Stock Exchange last year.

Around 160,000 units of Audi’s first electric model have been delivered since 2018. Audi is focusing on transforming production from the inside out with the aim of heralding the future of production at Audi, the 360factory. The companies that supply the battery cells are obliged to use only renewable energy sources for production.

Mercedes-Benz Cars is starting construction of its first “Full-Flex Plant“ in Kecskemét, Hungary, about 90 km in the south of Budapest. Overall, the company is investing €1 billion in the new car plant and creating more than 2,500 jobs. The company is now transferring the blue print of “Factory 56” to a complete factory.

Rumors started brewing about the future of the plant in two years ago, when Ford made the call to build its next-gen EVs in Spain and not reboot and retrain workers at Saarlouis. BYD was reported to be among the companies interested, but the Chinese automaker has since announced it is opening its first European plant in Hungary.

The company assumes that unit sales of electric models will represent a share of somewhere between 15 and 25 percent of total Mercedes-Benz sales by 2025. In Germany the smart brand is the market leader among all-electric vehicles in the first quarter of 2018. From 2020, the brand smart will only offer electric vehicles.
