The Velite 5 features GM’s proven EVT electronic controlled intelligent variable transmission. The Velite 5 offers up to 768 kilometers (477 miles) of range in extended-range mode.

GM China will open a battery assembly plant in Shanghai later this year to support the growth of its new energy vehicle line-up. From 2017 through 2020, two-thirds of new energy vehicles launched by GM in China will be dedicated new energy vehicles.

In November 2012, General Motors announced a goal of putting 500,000 electrified vehicles on the road by 2017. That encompasses any type of vehicle that uses electricity as motive power, from mild hybrids to plug-in hybrids, and from extended-range electric cars to all-electric vehicles.

Buick announced last month that the Velite 5, its first extended range electric vehicle (EREV), will come to China shortly. In the coming two years, Buick will also launch plug-in hybrids and pure battery electric vehicles to expand its green lineup. Chevrolet sales increased 4.3% from the previous March to 34,750 units.
