The BMW Group is beginning to test near-standard vehicles with a hydrogen fuel cell drive train in everyday conditions on European roads. Prototypes of the BMW i Hydrogen NEXT will examine how effectively the CO 2 -free drive train, model-specific chassis technology and vehicle electronics systems work together under real-life conditions.

At the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, the 200,000 th BMW i3 model rolled off the production line last week. The BMW i3s (combined power consumption: 14.6 – 14.0 kWh/100 km) with Fluid Black metallic paint finish and accents in BMW i Blue was produced for a customer from Saxony and will be delivered by the BMW branch in Leipzig.

The 2015 BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car was finally unveiled this morning at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show. It joins the i3 electric city car as the second model in BMW’s line of “i” plug-in vehicles.

BMW announced that the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (without Destination & Handling) for the i3 electric vehicle in the US will be $41,350, before any federal or state incentives. The BMW i3 will offer interior space comparable to the BMW 3 Series on a shorter overall body.

BMW will offer a full hybrid version of its new 5 Series as early as next year, according to Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, speaking at the company’s 90 th Annual General Meeting today in Munich.
