The new rechargeable lithium-ion battery plant to based within Nissan’s established plant on Washington Road will be Nissan’s European Centre of Excellence for Battery Manufacturing. Additionally it was presented the prototype of those recharging stations.

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.

Grants of between £2,000 and £5,000 will be available toordinary motorists to encourage them to buy electric or otherultra-low-carbon cars. Car buyers were less enthusiastic. The grants will not be available until 2011 and the detail of how they will beallocated and which cars will qualify has still to be worked out.
