The intent of the strategic alliance is to establish a collaborative forum focused on spurring aviation alternative fuels market growth. The Deployment and Logistics team will identify locations or regions suitable for alternative fuels production and deployment, as well as means of distribution to and from those locations.

LNG, as a promising lower-emission alternative fuel has not been used for container vessels. At a press conference held during the Kormarine Trade Fair in Busan, both parties announced the progress they have made towards developing LNG-fueled large container vessels. This will make conventional fuel unattractive.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) approved $17,223,593 for eight projects including alternative fuel production, plug-in truck demonstrations, EV charging station deployment, and infrastructure planning. The money is an augmentation to an existing Energy Commission award of $750,000, conferred in February 2010.
