The utility is participating in a national consortium that recently was awarded a federal stimulus grant to purchase plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and the company is buying more trucks to run on compressed natural gas (CNG) as well. The matching stimulus grant will provide up to $2.5 million for the vehicle conversions.

At the AABC 2008 conference, Robert King from GE Global Research outlined requirements and challenges for hybrid locomotive batteries, including: 1,300 kW continuous chare/discharge power. have entered a commercial agreement to produce electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs), cars and other electric vehicles in China for domestic and global distribution. Under the exclusive agreement, ZAP and Jonway take the electric drive systems designed by ZAP and integrate them into the reengineered EV SUV that will be produced by Jonway.

The struggles came despite the fact that Nissan sold eight all-new models globally: Teana, Infiniti FX, Maxima, Qashqai+2, NP200, KIX mini SUV, Cube and Z. .
