Launched at the British International Motor Show in July 2008 ( earlier post ) and voted Electric Car of the Year at the Green Fleet awards, the MyCar electric vehicle is now on sale at evstores in London. Maximum range is 70 miles (112 km), with a top speed of 40 mph (64 km/h). Recharging takes 8-10 hours.

The supercar is designed to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just three seconds and reach a top speed of over 200 mph, according to Velozzi. Then, when the batteries reach a pre-determined state of discharge, the Capstone microturbine will recharge the batteries on the fly to extend the driving range up to 1,000 miles.

This technology was developed and used by Lamborghini in its first structural applications as far back as 2008. As well as the internal combustion engine that provides power to the rear wheels, a pair of electric motors now make their debut on the front axle, each supplying traction to one of the front wheels.

Honda is also exploring the use of a Rankine cycle co-generation unit to improve the overall efficiency of a hybrid vehicle by recapturing waste exhaust heat from the internal combustion engine and converting it to electricity to recharge the battery pack.

The fuel engine on the Volt is used to run the generator to recharge the battery when a trip exceeds 40 miles, and it’s rage on a full tank is around 400 miles. Also maintenance on these (no oil changes to speak of) etc will cost much less than an internal combution propelled car. the viability of GM as a company.
